National Scholarship Program

National Scholarships

National Scholarships are designed to recognize all-round excellence. They are awarded based on outstanding academic performance, creativity, innovative thought and a passion for the pursuit of learning.

These scholarships also recognize exceptional achievement in extracurricular activities such as the arts and athletics. A special emphasis is placed on a candidate's commitment to community service through ongoing contributions to school and community life.

There is only 1 application to the National Scholarship Program. When you fill out an application, you are automatically considered for all scholarships offered in the program. There are scholarships offered for both domestic and international.

How to Apply

In order to be considered for the National Scholarship Program a school nomination is required.

It is up to each school to determine their process for having their students seek a nomination and for selecting the students who will receive a nomination. Each school is able to nominate up to 4 students for the National Scholarship Program and can nominate 1 additional student (in addition to the 4) if that student is an international (visa) student).

Schools are not nominating students for a specific scholarship.  The nomination is for the student to be considered for the scholarships available within the National Scholarship Program.

Each applicant must complete the online National Scholarship Application Form. In addition, applicants must supply a:

  • Transcript (provided by the applicant's school)
  • Reference letter (from applicant's school)
  • Essay outlining why they should be considered
  • Supplemental financial application (only required for the Beryl Ivey Continuing Entrance Award and the Neen Hodgins National Entrance Scholarship)

Applications are not for a specific scholarship, the application is to be considered for the scholarships available within the National Scholarship Program.

Once the application and all supporting documents have been received and reviewed by Western, select candidates will be chosen for a personal interview during April.

Students will be contacted via email with more information about the interview process.
